Azzolina starts investigations
The Minister of Education, Lucía Azzolina, intervened immediately on the matter, assuring that the ministry had initiated the investigations and expressing “the deepest condolences and pain and maximum closeness to the family” of the minor. The same sentiments were expressed by Palermo Mayor Leoluca Orlando, by Sicilian Governor Nello Musumeci and by his entire council, and by numerous local and national politicians. When the girl fell to the ground, some of her sixth graders said they saw her slip and hit her head on the ground. Everyone immediately thought of an accident.
The first to help her were the teachers who tried to revive her, but there was nothing to do. The 118 health workers, who arrived in a hurry, could only verify the death of the child. The investigations are carried out by the police, but the hypothesis of sudden illness is the most accredited, so much so that the Prosecutor’s Office has not ordered an autopsy. The parents explained that there was nothing to suggest that their daughter was suffering from something. This morning in front of the school, with their faces covered by masks, the students of the institute and their parents have stopped for a long time, petrified, and tomorrow the teaching activity will be suspended.
