It will be a miracle if any ‘Walking Dead’ show returns in all of 2020

While the COVID pandemic has more immediate and pressing problems than the return of television shows, in the entertainment arena it is proving to be a unique threat as it has been incredibly difficult for those working in the industry to re-shoot again. You can make a video game or record music remotely, often, but you can’t shoot a movie or TV show that way.

One show that’s hit harder than most is The Walking Dead, which has not one, but three different series to worry about, all the movies within the US where the pandemic seems to be actively getting worse. And a series of zombies with hordes and fight scenes isn’t exactly something you can film with social distancing.

The longer this continues, the more I would be surprised if any The Walking Dead show will return in 2020, outside of a specific episode in the series.

This is where we are now:

The Walking Dead Season 10 finale – Post-production work on this single episode was not completed, so it couldn’t air with the rest of the season a few months ago. According to the showrunner, the end date will be announced soon, as it looks like they’ve found a work-from-home solution to finish at least this episode. I would expect it to arrive in August, if it is announced at virtual Comic Con in a week or so.

The Walking Dead: World Beyond – This was the new spin-off series that was supposed to debut just after the end, but it was all pushed with post-production not ending in the first 10-episode season (the entire series will only have two seasons, 20 episodes total). The last update we had for that series was in May, when it was said yes, it should be available before the end of the year. And yet the pandemic has not improved in the US, which may have been anticipation, so I’d be surprised if that’s the plan. And yet if it is only post-production work that needs to be finished, not filmed, maybe it can be squeezed there.

Fear the Walking Dead Season 6 – The sub-series here was interrupted in the middle of filming and has not yet resumed. We’d probably be in the middle of the season right now if this were a normal year as it will debut after World Beyond and ended before the October premiere of The Walking Dead. But without knowing when he will be able to resume filming, it is unclear how this will turn out soon.

The Walking Dead Season 11 – This was scheduled to start filming months ago, but it just hasn’t been possible, and no one seems to know when a start date will be given the current situation. Of each show on the list, TWD is less likely to arrive in 2020 as it will not only miss its October start date, which has reached every year for a decade, but there is almost no way for us to see it this year. . not at all I guess.

AMC relies heavily on the still-popular Walking Dead franchise to air roughly year-round, and now it was supposed to be a 42-week year of Sundays with episodes of Walking Dead, divided into three shows. But things have changed enormously, and I will be surprised if we have more than just the back half of season 10 and perhaps World Beyond, if so, throughout the year. Stay tuned.
