Isaiah Prince chooses to exit the 2020 NFL season


Isaiah PrinceThe 2020 NFL season is already over. The Cincinnati Bengals announced Friday that the team placed the offensive lineman on the Reserve / Exclusion list. This list is for players who choose elect not to participate in the 2020 NFL season for any reason. The player must provide the club with written notice of their decision to opt out of the season. Once given, the decision is irrevocable for the rest of the 2020 season.

Prince was ready to enter his second season in the NFL after the Miami Dolphins selected him in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Prince was stepped down by the Dolphins last season and claimed by the Bengals in December. Prince now joins a growing list of NFL players who have chosen to exit the 2020 season due to fears about COVID-19

As a four-star prospect and the nation’s fifth best offensive tackle in the 2015 recruiting class according to the 247Sports Composite, Price arrived in the state of Ohio in 2015. He became engaged to the Buckeyes. Eleanor Roosevelt High School in Greenbelt, Maryland, on National Signature Day in 2015 and enrolled in school the following June.

Although he didn’t make the red jersey in his freshman year on campus, as many offensive linemen do, Prince did not immediately contribute to the Buckeyes. It wasn’t until his sophomore year that Prince became a starter at right tackle. The 2016 season went from top to bottom for Prince, who had some good times but also sometimes had problems. Many Scarlet and Gray fans will remember Ohio State’s loss at Penn State when Prince battled with the defensive ends of the Nittany Lions.

Over the next two years, Prince improved his game and was named an All-Big Ten third team as a junior in 2017 and received an All-Big Ten honorable mention last season. Prince was also one of seven captains in his senior year, along with wide receivers. Terry McLaurin, Parris Campbell, Johnnie dixondefensive end Nick Bosa, safety Jordan Fuller and linebacker Tuf Borland.

Looking ahead to the 2019 NFL Draft, Prince’s projections varied widely. Some experts had it as high as a second-round pick, while others had it in the fourth round or below. When the draft finally arrived in late April, Prince had to wait longer than he wanted, but he finally got a call from the Dolphins that he was going to Miami.

As a rookie, Prince played in four games, making two starts, for the Dolphins, but did not participate in the Bengals after being claimed.

Pursuant to the NFL’s agreement with the Players Association, Price’s contract will apply in the 2021 season and he is eligible to receive a $ 150,000 salary advance unless he qualifies as a high-risk player. In that case, he would receive $ 350,000 per season for free agency.
