Two men have been charged with the attempted murder of a teenager who was seriously injured in a shooting on a downtown street.

Amie Berry (25) and Stephen Mulvey (29) appeared in Dublin District Court today charged after a firearm attack on the 17-year-old in February.

The alleged victim was treated at the hospital for multiple gunshot wounds and has since been released and is recovering.

Judge Bernadette Owens put the two defendants in custody for a week.

Berry and Mulvey, both of Leo Fitzgerald House, Dublin 2, are charged with attempted murder on Eugene Street in Dublin 8 on February 24.

Garda Detective Mark Dennehy told the court that he arrested Mr. Mulvey at the Kevin Street station yesterday and did not respond to the charge after a warning at 8:52 pm. A copy of the charge sheet was given to him.

Detective Gda Richard Pender gave evidence of Mr. Berry’s arrest, indictment and reprimand at the Kevin Street station at 8.55pm yesterday. He also did not respond to the accusation.

Det Gda Pender said that the alleged injured party in both cases was the same person: a minor.

Garda Dennehy said there could be reporting restrictions on the case.

The judge asked if there was a connection between the parties that would identify the alleged victim, and the gardai answered no. There was no family relationship and they did not live in the same area, the court heard.

Judge Owens said that as a result, although the alleged victim could not be identified, there was no prohibition on naming the two defendants.

Defense attorney Niall O’Connor said a bond was not being requested at this stage due to the nature of the charge. Bail can only be posted at the Superior Court level for one count of attempted murder.

O’Connor said the bail requests “will be made in due course.”

Legal aid was granted after O’Connor said the defendants were unemployed.

The judge ordered that Mr. Berry receive medical attention while in detention, at the request of his attorney.

The defendants were placed in pretrial detention to appear in Cloverhill District Court via video link on April 9.

Gardai has said that two other men in their 20s and a boy were also arrested in the investigation and that they have been released without charge pending the preparation of a file for the Director of the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The alleged victim, from the south-central part of the city, was shot at around 11 p.m. on February 24, suffering injuries to his neck and leg.

He was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and has since been discharged and is said to be recovering well.
