Martin said: “The goal is for 80 percent not only to be offered the vaccination, but also to be vaccinated by the end of June.”

Professor Philip Nolan said that Ireland is in a “very static situation” with the R number on the rise.

The Health Department reported six more Covid-19-related deaths and confirmed 411 new cases in the past 24 hours.

The reproduction number is currently estimated at 1.0 – 1.3.

At a press conference this afternoon, Professor Philip Nolan, Chairman of NPHET’s Irish Epidemiological Modeling Advisory Group, said: “It doesn’t seem to be getting worse, but unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be getting better”

Meanwhile, rapid antigen tests could be used in all schools when they reopen in September, according to HSE’s national leader in contact tracing.

The Taoiseach has also confirmed that children’s shoe stores will be able to reopen by appointment only.
