Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has issued a statement clarifying the comments he made in relation to those involved in yesterday’s protests in Dublin city center.

He said most of those involved belong to various factions, including the far left.

This morning, he said that “despite initial indications, after further investigations, there is no corroborated evidence of participation by far-left factions.”

In the statement, Harris said that “the vast majority of those who participated [yesterday] They belong to a number of factions, including protesters against vaccines, masks and the blockade, far-right groups and those trying to create trouble and disorder. “

Three gardai were injured and 23 people arrested during protests against the Covid-19 restrictions.

Harris said yesterday that although the Gardaí had an operation planned for a protest, some people arrived “obviously with the intention of doing violence.”

Thirteen people were brought before the Dublin District Court last night, charged in connection with the protests.

The 12 men and one woman were brought before a special court session and charged with violations of the Public Order Law.
