Gardai in Co Louth stopped a car accelerating to 158 km / h with a small child who was “not properly restrained” inside.

Drogheda officers encountered the vehicle on the M1 motorway.

Gardai also said the driver had a learner’s permit and was driving unaccompanied.

The motorist also did not show L plates.

A garda spokesman said: “Drogheda RPU stopped the previous vehicle for traveling 158 km per hour on the M1 in Charleville, Co Louth.




“The driver had a learner’s permit and was driving unaccompanied, he had no L plates displayed and he also had a child under the age of 3 who was not properly restrained.
