Gardai makes arrest for staggering 1.8 million euros in drugs found after van stopped in Co Cork

The proceeds of cannabis worth 1.8 million euros were seized after stopping a van in Co Cork.

The find was made at the Ringaskiddy ferry terminal on Tuesday afternoon.

Officers found a staggering 90kg of herbal cannabis after stopping a Polish-registered van that had arrived from Roscoff in France.

Subsequently, a total of 37 separate packages of herbal cannabis were found deeply hidden within the panels of the van.

The driver of the van, a Pole in his twenties, was detained and subsequently arrested by An Garda Siochana.

A spokesperson for Revenue said investigations are ongoing.




They added: “These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations aimed at the importation of illicit drugs. If companies or the public have any information about smuggling, they can contact Revenue confidentially at the confidential phone number 1800 295 295 “.

While a Garda spokesperson added: “Gardaí arrested a man in his 20s, following a seizure of 1.8 million euros worth of cannabis herb, in Ringaskiddy, Co. Cork by the Revenue Customs Service today, Tuesday. March 9.

“The man is currently detained under the provisions of Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 at Togher Garda Police Station. He may be detained for up to seven days.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
