Twitter has permanently suspended the account of US President Donald Trump due to the risk of further incitement to violence, the social media company said.
“After a detailed review of recent Tweets from the @ realDonaldTrump account and the context surrounding them, we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement to violence,” the company said in a tweet.
On Wednesday, Twitter temporarily blocked Trump’s account, which had more than 88 million followers, following the siege of Capitol Hill by pro-Trump protesters.
A police officer later died from injuries sustained during the riots.
Twitter had warned that additional breaches of the US president’s accounts would result in a permanent suspension.
The White House had no immediate comment.

Facebook said earlier this week that it would suspend Donald Trump’s account until at least the end of his presidential term.
Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg said an initial 24-hour ban was extended due to “Trump’s use of our platform to incite a violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.”
He is scheduled to hand over power to President-elect Joe Biden on January 20.
Last night, President Trump said he would not be attending his Democratic successor’s inauguration, just hours after promising a peaceful transition of power.
“For everyone who has asked, I will not be going to the inauguration on January 20,” Trump wrote on Twitter, before his account was suspended.
