Jurgen Klopp says Liverpool’s 1-0 home loss to Chelsea it’s a “massive blow” to his top four hopes.

Mason Mount scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute when Chelsea won at Anfield for the first time since 2014.

The result leaves Liverpool four points behind the top four and in dire need of a goal at home.

They haven’t been able to score at Anfield in over ten hours and it didn’t look like they were doing it against Thomas Tuchel’s side.

Liverpool failed to register a shot on goal until the final ten minutes. Even then, they didn’t test goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.

Reacting to the loss, Klopp told Sky Sports (via BBC Sport): “Mason Mount’s individual quality at the time made the difference. It was a close, intense match. Both teams invested a lot.

“They had the goal that they scored offside. The second half another counterattack, we had more situations around, the big one with Sadio Mane and other situations in which we did not score.

“You have to defend differently and we didn’t do well there. There are many things to consider. In the end we conceded a goal, we made the mistake there, the other was offside and it can be said that it was a good defense but with all the possession we had we have to have more chances. Everything was really good until the final pass.

“Unfortunately, we can’t say it’s home alone. It’s not about Anfield, in general, too often. In the decisive moments we have to improve. We have to show our quality right now and we don’t do it often enough. “

In a surprise move, Klopp took out Mo Salah and Thiago in the second half.

When asked about the decision, the German boss said: “I just brought fresh legs. Mo seemed like he suffered a bit today, he played a lot of games. I could have taken Sadio from me [Mane] or Bobby [Firmino], that’s all clear but at the time it looked like Mo.

“[James] Milner bought to wake them up a bit and keep them in the game because we needed a situation.

“It is a massive hit. Not done yet. “

Klopp will be desperate for a reaction in his next game. They face Fulham on Sunday at 2pm.
