A SWIMMER HAS died after having difficulty in the water at Howth this afternoon.
The man in his 20s died after having difficulty swimming at a beach known locally as Hidden Beach near Baily Lighthouse, near Whitewater Brook.
His body was pulled out of the water by the Irish Coast Guard and has been transferred to Beaumont Hospital.
The Irish Coast Guard rescue coordination center received a call to 999 reporting a man in distress at sea near Thormanby Road in Howth,
The Irish Coast Guard commissioned the Howth Coast Guard rescue team along with the Howth RNLI lifeboat and the Coast Guard Rescue 116 helicopter.
The Coast Guard rescue team arrived at the scene and took the victim ashore.
Paramedics from the Dublin Fire Brigade and the National Ambulance Service treated the victim at the scene.
Coast Guard Rescue 116 took the casualty aboard before being taken to Beaumont Hospital.

No dirty act is suspected, and the incident is treated as a tragic accident.
“We encourage people to be careful around the water over Easter weekend and to contact the Coast Guard at 999 or 112 if they think they see someone in trouble. If it is possible and safe to do so, stay in place until help arrives, ”the Howth Coast Guard said.
