These were the scenes in North Dublin on Thursday morning when the Garda Ombudsman launched an investigation into a car accident following a lengthy manhunt.
Dublin Live revealed that GSOC is investigating the accident after the car drove Gardai on a morning chase through Finglas and was found crashed shortly after.
Two people were seriously injured after the car they were driving appeared to crash into a tree on St. Margaret’s Road in Finglas in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Just after 3 a.m., Gardai saw the car driving dangerously and tried to stop it, but the driver refused to stop.
A short time later, the car was involved in the collision with the tree on St. Margaret’s Road with harrowing images obtained by Dublin Live.
The driver, a male teenager, and his passenger, a man in his 20s, were taken to Mater Hospital and received treatment for serious injuries.
The road between McKee Avenue and North Road was closed in both directions for hours throughout Thursday while Gardai dealt with the incident.
Forensic collision investigators attended the scene and conducted an examination before fully reopening the road in the afternoon.
A Garda spokesperson confirmed to Dublin Live that GSOC is conducting an investigation into the collision.
He said: “Gardaí is investigating a dangerous driving incident that resulted in a single vehicle traffic collision on St Margaret’s Road, Finglas, in the early hours of Thursday 1 April.
“At approximately 3:10 am, Gardaí observed that the vehicle was driving in a dangerous manner and tried to stop the vehicle. Gardaí carried out a controlled containment operation.
“Suspect vehicle was involved in a collision on St Margaret’s Road shortly thereafter.”
He continued: “Emergency services came to the scene and the driver and passenger (both men, teenagers and 20) of the vehicle were taken to Mater Hospital to receive treatment for serious injuries.
“Forensic collision investigators attended the scene and conducted an examination.”
He added: “As the suspect vehicle had interacted with the Gardaí earlier in the evening, this matter has been referred to GSOC.”
