Tiger Roll will race in the Betway Bowl at Aintree rather than gamble on the glory of the Grand Irish National on Easter Monday at Fairyhouse, Eddie O’Leary, Gigginstown House Stud racing manager, revealed on Friday.

O’Leary insists the British handicapper was wrong in his assessment of Tiger Roll’s weight for this year’s Randox Grand National, prompting the powerful owners to retire the double winner of the race last month.

However, O’Leary says there will be no lowly cake if Tiger Roll succeeds in the Betway Bowl, insisting that the team would be pleasantly surprised.

O’Leary said: “He’s going to Aintree for the Bowl. He left Cheltenham in great shape.

“Red Rum won his third Grand National when he was 12, after losing seven pounds, but I guess Tiger will have to wait until he’s 17 to try and win his third because of the way the English handicapper keeps going.”

He added: “The handicap is totally wrong and has lost Tiger Roll and Easysland from the Grand National. It’s not just about Tiger Roll anymore. “

When asked if there would be a humble pie slice should Tiger Roll land in the Bowl, O’Leary said: “There is no humble pie, you’re completely wrong. Okay, if you win, we’ll say we’re wrong, but we don’t regret it. “

The absence of Tiger Roll means Latest Exhibition will reduce the 11st 10lb weights for the BoyleSports Irish Grand National.

His trainer Paul Nolan also had the option of the Grade 1 subscription exchange Rookie Hunt on Sunday at Fairyhouse, but has decided to roll the big dice with his steady star.

Nolan said: “We tried to keep in mind that the longest ride and the best terrain would do you good. The Irish Grand National is also a great jackpot to win.

“It’s a prestigious race and we didn’t go to Cheltenham so we come here [with] a cool horse. Hopefully we are making the right decision. If he can give a good account of himself and go home safe and sound, we will be delighted. “

He added: “Hopefully we have a satisfactory record and that we can be a little better than that. We may not be, but if we have a clear round on Monday we think we have a great opportunity.”

“His lack of experience is something you would have to worry about. He has never run on a handicap and has run small races over hurdles. But Bryan [Cooper] he is able to put him in a good rhythm, hopefully he will have a great opportunity. “

Gigginstown will be represented by Coko Beach, Mortal, Run Wild Fred and Roaring Bull. They are also responsible for the first booking, Eurobot.

The Sempo coached by Joseph O’Brien, subject to a pre-post bet, gets into the 10th pound.

Energumene, who was ruled out of the Arkle at the Cheltenham Festival with just a few days to go, was not declared for Sunday’s Grade 1 Subscription Exchange Rookie Hunt.

Coach Willie Mullins, on the other hand, relies on Asterion Furlonge, Franco De Port and Janidil. Andy Dufresne and Conflated, coached by Denise Foster, are also among the nine returns for the 2m4f contest.
