A MAN and a woman have been arrested following an alleged terror stabbing in Dublin’s south city center yesterday.
Gardai ran to Markievicz House in Dublin 2 at 11am after reports of an incident.
The victim was initially found with “serious injuries” at the apartment complex before being rushed to St James Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The man who was found dead has been locally named Isaac ‘Ike’ Horgan.
This morning, a 40-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman were arrested in connection with Horgan’s death.
The two are currently being detained at the Garda station on Pearse Street.
A Garda spokesman said: “Gardaí is investigating the death of a man in his 50s, after an incident at the Markievicz house yesterday they have arrested two people.”
“A man in his 40s and a woman in his 30s were arrested this morning and are currently being held under the provision of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act of 1984 at Pearse Street Garda Station.”
POST MORTEM DUE
Horgan was acquitted of the manslaughter of another man in 2005 and is well known in the area.
Gardai on Pearse Street suspects that he may have been stabbed once.
An autopsy will be conducted today to determine the course of the investigation.
Gardai is trying to establish if there was anyone else on his property before he was found.
A source said: “There was a lot of blood in the apartment, but it is unclear if the man was the victim of a crime.”
“The autopsy will determine how your injury was caused.
“Anyone with information about his movements has been asked to come forward.”
This is absolutely tragic news, sadly once again the specter of knife crime darkens the streets of our city and another life has been taken. “
Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond
Fine Gael TD Neale Richmond told The Irish Sun: “This is absolutely tragic news, sadly once again the specter of knife crime darkens the streets of our city and another life has been taken.
“This problem is intensifying with the increase in seizures, hospitalizations and, indeed, deaths.
“We need to accelerate Scottish-style early intervention plans, gun amnesties and increase the visibility of the Garda.
“Strong sentences are important, but that will never bring back a lost loved one – sentencing as a deterrent will only address a small aspect of the knife crime plague.”
A Garda spokesperson said: “A man in his 50s was taken to St James Hospital and later pronounced dead.
“An autopsy will be carried out, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.
“The scene is still preserved and the staff of the Garda Technical Office and the Crime Scene Division are conducting examinations.”
