Twitter has permanently removed Donald Trump’s account from its platform.

The social media giant announced the decision on Friday night. “After a detailed review of recent tweets from the @realDonaldTrump account and the context surrounding them, specifically how they are received and interpreted on and off Twitter, we have permanently suspended the account due to the risk of further incitement to violence.” , said the company said in a statement.

He continued: “In the context of this week’s horrific events, we made it clear Wednesday that additional violations of the Twitter Rules could result in this same course of action.”

Earlier this week, Twitter banned the president for 12 hours. Facebook also announced this week that it would delete his account until at least the end of his presidency.

The president of the United States has effectively deployed the social media platform to build his political career since before announcing his candidacy for the presidency, accumulating more than 80 million followers on Twitter. But this year it incited the ire of the company, which began tagging and deleting some of its tweets for violating its rules.

The Silicon Valley giant’s unprecedented move follows this week’s scenes of violence on Capitol Hill. Twitter removed a video posted by Trump in the wake of the protests, in which he repeated claims of election interference and told his supporters attacking the Capitol that he loved them, even as he told them to leave the building.

Among a list of reasons given by Twitter for its decision to ban Trump was information it had obtained about new attacks.

“Plans for future armed protests have already begun to proliferate on and off Twitter, including a proposed secondary attack on the United States Capitol and state capitol buildings on January 17, 2021.”

Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., responded on Twitter. “We are living in Orwell’s 1984. Freedom of speech no longer exists in the United States. He died with big technology and what is left is only for a select few, ”he tweeted. “This is absolute insanity!”

Trump’s calls for resignation have increased in light of events in which a mob raped the capitol building and House Democrats are ready to impeach him a second time for his role in inciting the Capitol riots.
