Kanturk killers lured couple back to farm and taunted their mother

When a terrified Anne O’Sullivan fled her home barefoot early Monday morning, a cruel parting comment from her murderous husband and son left her in no doubt that they spared her life because they wanted her to suffer.

Moments earlier, husband Tadg and younger son Diarmuid had shot dead their devoted eldest son, Mark, with two 22 rifles in legal possession, in his room.

She had run into the hall when the first of seven shots was fired, and she watched in horror as her beloved son stumbled out of bed as five of the seven shots hit.

They wanted to kill Mark with her there. It is thought that Diarmuid wanted to kill her too, but the father wanted to make her suffer, ” said a source familiar with the investigation. He was more interested in making her suffer more than anything else at the time. It is a very wicked thing.

“ I knew it would be more cruel and callous to let her suffer the trauma of losing her entire family in the most unthinkable circumstances. ” The source described the gruesome details of the calculated murder-suicide plan.

Anne was in her nightgown, she was barefoot. These were two adult men armed with guns, if they wanted her dead now she would be dead, ” the source said.

It is understood that a ‘big dispute’ took place on the farm in the town of Assolas, near Castlemagner Kenturk, Co. Cork, several weeks earlier, over the bitter dispute over the land, at which point Mrs O’Sullivan and Mark left the house.

However, they were apparently ‘convinced’ to return to the farm last Sunday night, telling them about an olive branch and ‘solving the problem’.

Arrangements were made to bring them back to the farm, this was a considered and calculated plan to kill Mark, with the overall goal of making Anne suffer while battling a serious illness. It’s unthinkable. ‘

As Mark died on the floor of his room, his distraught mother fled the farm in a desperate search for help, but Tadg and Diarmuid caught up with her. They took the phone from him and told him that they were going to commit suicide later.

And as he mustered as much strength as he could from his ill health and struggled to seek help for his dying son, they headed to the field at the back of the house to complete their suicide pact.

Father and son fired one last shot each, killing each other. There was a line of sight from the back of the house to where the bodies lay in the distance, in a field called “El Fuerte.”

A detailed 12-page note, tied to Diarmuid’s thigh with Clingfilm, is understood to be the key to the two men’s thinking in the days leading up to the grotesque murders.

One and a half pages of those 12 pages were written by Tadg. One source said the letter is “well written and well written.”

He showed that what happened was premeditated and planned and was executed by father and son in partnership. Most likely it was run by the younger boy, but obviously the father was involved. He was sadistic to the point that they wanted to hurt him.

“It was definitely a murder-suicide pact from the beginning and it shows a pact from the beginning and shows a family divided by the land.”

Mrs. O’Sullivan and Mark were lured back to the family farm, from the home of a neighbor and friend of the family, last Sunday night. They had stayed there after a dispute. Anne was also recovering from surgery she had in a Dublin hospital for a serious illness.

Less than 12 hours later, shortly after 6.30am, Mark was dead in his room. At around 7 a.m., the Gardaí were called after a distraught Anne finally arrived at a neighbor’s door.
