Another 1,066 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Northern Ireland

There have been 1,066 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours, its Department of Health announced.

One more death has also been reported.

The situation on the island of Ireland has deteriorated significantly in recent weeks. Between the two jurisdictions, almost 2,000 new cases were announced yesterday.

In Northern Ireland there were 902 cases of the virus yesterday. On Friday, 1,080 new record cases were confirmed.

Derry and Strabane remain the worst affected area in Northern Ireland’s six counties.

It seems likely that more stringent restrictions will be applied to try to stop the deteriorating situation in Northern Ireland.

On Friday, the UK Treasury announced new employment support measures that would support companies forced to close by new local restrictions.

The decision suggests that the Northern Ireland Executive may now consider further action to combat the virus.
