Twelve school-related Covid-19 clusters were notified to the Health Services Executive over the course of last week, according to data released tonight.
It brings to 48 the total number of outbreaks involving children or school personnel since schools reopened.
47 of those conglomerates are still active, according to the HSE, and one is listed as “closed.”
The most recent data from the Health Protection Surveillance Center shows an average of 12 groups associated with school-age children and / or school personnel emerging per week over the past four weeks.
The HPSC says that while these outbreaks are associated with school children or school personnel, “transmission of the virus within the school has not necessarily been established.”
On the other hand, the latest NPHET figures for tonight show that of a total of 5,925 cases identified in the last fortnight, 9%, or about 530, have been in children 14 years or younger.
25%, or about 1,480, are young people between 15 and 24 years old.
