The new series of leaks has confirmed one of the biggest upgrades for the iPhone 12 Pro. And now we have a better understanding of what it will enable users to do.
The most compelling report comes from Fast Company, which details the capabilities of the new leader sensors provided by Sony. Using light pulses, the leader sensor measures light pulses to measure the distance of objects. And it has the potential to radically improve both photography and augmented reality.
On the photography front, the iPhone 12 Pro models will reportedly give the Lidar a “more precise aut tofocus”, as well as a better distinction between foreground and background.
This should help the product on the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max better portrait mode shots. In other words, the iPhone 12 Pro will bring results that are very close to the best DSLR.
The leader sensor should also be able to help with video, as it will be able to detect the depth of moving objects or subjects in the frame. Fast company speculates that camera camera software can separate 3D object objects from the background of the video and exert an effect on it.
John Prosser’s previous leak on the lidar sensor for the iPhone 12 Pro shows that it can also enable advanced night mode, although we’re not sure if this applies to photos, videos, or both.
Another important aspect of a leader is how it can expand augmented reality applications. According to Fast Company, iPhone AR applications will be able to “place digital images at the level of real-world images viewed through the lens.” In addition, the iPhone 12 Pro’s leader sensor will deliver greater accuracy when measuring.
The iPhone 12 leader sensor appears
Separate, liqueur Mr. White You posted the image below on Twitter, showing two space gray-colored rear glass panels for which there is definitely a pair of iPhones.
Below the two glass panels shown are those of the iPhone 11 Pro or iPhone 11 Pro Max, with three large holes for the main, ultraviolet and telephoto camera lenses, a small top for flash and an even smaller one for the rear microphone.
The other glass panel, which we consider to be one of the iPhone 12 Pro devices, has enlarged the hole that has been used significantly for the microphone, and a small hole has been drilled a little above and to its right. The iPhone 12 Pro is rumored to have a leader sensor, so, it is located as soon as the mic migrates to the new small cutout.
You can see this more clearly from another source, this is LaobaTech, a user on the Chinese social network Weibo (via MyDrivers and MyCrumers). It aspires to be a case image for the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and once again shows a triple camera array with a large cutout at the bottom and a microphone-sized hole on its top-right.
Outlook
Based on the rumors and leaks we’ve seen, this year the iPhone 12 lineup could stick with a 12MP sensor, at a time when rivals like Samsung are pushing 108MP with the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. Samsung also offers powerful space zoom with 5x optical zoom and 50x digital zoom. The iPhone 12 Pro series is expected to stay in the 2x range or reach 3x.
However, we have heard that the iPhone 12 will offer a larger sensor than before, which will probably shed more light and get more detail. And we’ve also heard that the result should be an improvement in the Magic Fusion feature, which fuses multiple images together to deliver as sharp a picture as possible.
With the addition of Leader to this mix, the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max are likely to be the best camera phones, but we’ll have to see how well the feature works. And that will likely happen in October, as Apple Play has said that the iPhone 12 will be delayed by a few weeks.
