IPhone 12 Mini users report touch screen touch sensitivity issues

A significant number of new iPhone 12 Mini owners have been reporting screen sensitivity issues since receiving their phones. There is a post on some of the pages describing this issue in the forum, and the thread is shared on Reddit, where more users are reporting similar issues.

In particular, the problem appears to most users when they swipe down from the bottom of the screen using their thumbs to unlock the device, or when they press the torch or camera buttons on the screen.

The display does not always recognize a press or swipe to unlock. The other fingers seem to have more luck and once the iPhone 12-Mini is unlocked the sensitivity issues end.

Some users speculate that the lack of response could be a conductivity or grounding problem, as there are reports that the handset solves its own problem when plugged into a wall charger or when touching a frame without a case.

However, there is no consensus yet on what the problem is and whether it relates to hardware or software, but hopefully it is the latter and Apple may release an update to fix the problem soon.
