iOS 12.4.8 now available to download with bug fixes, performance improvements, and security fixes

While Apple’s focus is on the next big breakthrough, iOS 14, while adding sparkle to the current iOS 13 release, the company hasn’t abandoned iOS 12 users yet. A while back, the Cupertino giant released iOS 12.4.7 for users around the world and if you have a device like iPhone 6 then you can go ahead and take iOS 12.4.8 over the air as well.

Before you get excited thinking that this is a monster update with new features, know that this is nothing more than a bug fix version. You can even see some performance related improvements here and there, nothing special but important.

Download iOS 12.4.8 Over the Air

Downloading the new update is quite simple. Connect to a Wi-Fi network and make sure you have 50% or more of battery remaining. Follow the steps below:

  • Launch the setup app
  • Navigate to General> Software Update
  • Tap download and install when iOS 12.4.8 update appears

The whole process will not take that long. You’d better install the update just before bed so you can wake up to a new software release the next morning.

You have the option to perform a clean firmware installation. Just grab the IPSW files (the correct one) from the links below and use Finder or iTunes to perform the update. Make sure you have backed up everything in a safe location before continuing.

It’s great to see that Apple still supports older devices in 2020. But of course this support comes primarily in the form of security updates, ensuring users stay safe regardless of what they do on their smartphones.

It is highly recommended that you go ahead and download the update now rather than later.
