JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Thousands of workers, on Thursday (10/8/2020), held a demonstration against the Employment Creation Law at the State Palace, Jakarta.

They called on President Joko Widodo to cancel the broad universal rules that had been approved by the Indonesian Parliament through a plenary session on Monday (10/5/2020).

“We ask Pak Jokowi to cancel the Omnibus Law on Employment Creation Law. So our aspirations are parties that must be heard,” said the vice president of the Confederation of the Indonesian Workers’ Union (KPBI) Jumisih when contacted by Kompas.com, on Thursday (8/10/2020).

Jumisih recalled that President Jokowi must fulfill the aspirations of the people. Given, the movement to reject the Employment Creation Law is increasingly widespread.

This was proven by the emergence of the movement against the Employment Creation Law that took place in almost all regions.

Furthermore, the resistance movement did not only come from the labor element. But there are also students, farmers, society, women and students.

Jumisih emphasized that if President Jokowi is not able to listen to the aspirations of the community, this is an act of denial against the community itself.

“If the aspirations of the regions at the national level are not heard by the government, that means denying our aspirations as a people,” he said.

There was a wave of rejection of the Employment Creation Law in several areas in which workers, students and students participated.

In addition to holding demonstrations, labor elements also carried out an action in the form of a three-day strike from October 6 to 8, 2020 as the peak day for the rejection of the Employment Creation Law.

They have rejected many of the rules enshrined in the Labor Copyright Act, which are seen as depriving workers and society of their rights.

For example, the increasingly massive implementation of contract work as established in article 59 of the Employment Creation Law.
