TEHERAN, KOMPAS.com – Hassan Younesi, lawyer Navid Afkari, 27, a young fighter sentenced to death in Iran, said his client had not met his family before the execution.
Navid Afkari was executed by Iran on Saturday morning (12/09/2020) local time, for killing a public official (PNS) in an anti-government demonstration in August 2018.
He was executed in a prison in the southern city of Shiraz, Fars provincial prosecutor Kazem Mousavi was quoted as saying. AFP from the Iranian government television website.

Younesi tweeted today that under Iran’s penal code, “those sentenced to death have the right to reunite with their families before being executed.”
“Are you in such a hurry for punishment that you withdraw Navid’s last visit?” he wrote.

He also said that several people in Shiraz planned to meet with the families of the victims on Sunday (9/13/2020) to ask for their forgiveness.
President of the United States (USA) Donald Trump also apologized earlier this month.
“To the Iranian leaders, I would be very grateful if you would spare this young man’s life and not execute him. Thank you!”

Meanwhile, prosecutor Mousavi said the sentence was carried out “at the insistence of the victim’s family.”
Navid Afkari was convicted of stabbing to death an Iranian irrigation department official at an anti-government demonstration on August 2, 2018.
The victim’s name was Hossein Torkman and the court said Afkari had committed an “unplanned murder”.
Shiraz and several other urban centers in Iran were at that time the scene of protests against the government, due to economic difficulties and social problems.
