Winner of the design contest for the State Palace of the new capital: Unexpectedly, I usually lose

TRIBUNNEWS.COM – I Nyoman Nuarta shared his experience when he won the New Capital City State Palace design competition.

The artist from Tabanan, Bali, admitted that he never thought he could win the contest.

This is because, in general, he usually loses in several competitive events.

However, the man who now lives in Bandung, West Java, succeeded.

To learn more about the process behind his selection as the winner of the contest, Tribun Bali interviewed artist Nyoman Nuarta. Here is the excerpt:

Congratulations to Pak Nyoman for winning the competition to design a new state palace. How you feel? Do you think you will achieve this feat?

In fact, I was not expecting it. Because I usually lose a lot. This year, I lost four instead, I lost against Batam airport, I lost in Jakarta, I lost in Bali, and I kept losing the Komodo statue as well. Much to lose.

Can you tell us the story behind your victory in the competition?

I was invited by the Ministry of PUPR on Thursday (2/27/2020), to participate in a limited contest. Several architects were chosen. And the only person they called was not me. They then gave us 12 days to visualize the conceptual design ideas.

You have to do 12 design concepts at once, there is a palace, the DPR building and places of worship, then the vice-presidential palace, essentially 12
