Grobogan –
Mrapen Eternal Flame, which is located in Manggarmas Village, Godong District, Grobogan goes off. Manggarmas village chief Achmad Mufid said that Mrapen’s Eternal Flame had been extinguished a week ago.
“It has been extinguished this week and has shown no signs of flames,” Mufid said when contacted. detikcom, (02/10/2020).
Mufid said that Mrapen’s Eternal Flame was gradually dying out. Initially, the fire appeared to subside because it was estimated that the gas content released would be reduced.
However, the Eternal Flame of Mrapen was completely extinguished on Friday (9/25). Mufid also admitted that he had reported the extinction of Mrapen Eternal Flame to the appropriate agency.
“I have reported it to the relevant agencies and a team has gone out to the field to see the condition,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of the South Kendeng Region Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Office Sinung Sugeng Arianto admitted that he was still checking the extinction of the eternal fire. His group is still in the field to see the condition of the Eternal Flame of Mrapen extinguished.
“I am still in the field. We are still investigating the cause,” Sinung said.
Sinung admitted that he had done an initial verification. The result is that there is no gas smell from the eternal fire point.
“Yesterday we did an initial review. The report we received, the fire was extinguished since last September 25, “he explained.
Even so, his group will continue to conduct an in-depth study on the extinction of the Eternal Flame in Mrapen. This is because, he noted, before the Eternal Flame of Mrapen was extinguished, there was an outbreak of water mixed with gas during the drilling of a well located not far from Mrapen, on Saturday (9/12).
The explosions finally stopped after residents and the town closed off the area with coral. However, water and gas still seep from the well.
“We cannot confirm the discharge of this gas burst if it is related to the extinction of the eternal flame or not. To determine it a more in-depth study is needed,” he explained.
It should be noted that the Eternal Flame of Mrapen is usually the source of the torch for various national and international events. For example, the international sports festival Ganefo on November 1, 1963, with 2,700 athletes from 51 countries in Asia, Africa, Europe and Latin America.
Then the 16th National Sports Week (PON) on August 23, 1996. Every year, the Eternal Flame of Mrapen is also used as a torch for the Vesak Day ceremony for Buddhists.
The Eternal Fire location of Mrapen has also become a tourist destination, but during the Corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic this tourist attraction was closed.
