YAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Upon entering Day 18 of Operation Ketupat 2020, police still found a dark vehicle that tried to transport newcomers amid a ban on going home due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
A dark travel vehicle means a private vehicle with a black plate that converts as a public vehicle to transport travelers outside of Jakarta.
According to data from the Jaya Metro Police Traffic Directorate, 228 illegal travel vehicles transporting 1,389 travelers during 18 days of Operation Ketupat 2020 from April 24 to May 11, 2020.

Meanwhile, from May 8 to 10, 2020, 202 of the total dark travel vehicles were captured by isolation operations. Travel vehicle drivers reportedly transported 1,113 travelers to West Java, Central Java and East Java.
The 202 travel vehicles consist of 11 buses, 112 112 minibuses, 78 private cars, and a cargo truck that converts to carry passengers.
Travel drivers are subject to passage witnesses when they are accused of Article 308 of Law No. 22 of 2009 on Traffic and Road Transportation with a maximum fine of Rp 500,000 or a maximum prison sentence of two months.
For truck drivers, it is subject to article 303 of Law number 22 of the year 2009 on road traffic and transportation due to the conversion of goods vehicles for the transportation of passengers.
In the meantime, the travelers either returned immediately or were encouraged to return to Jakarta.
Dirlantas Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Sambodo Purnomo Yogo said, most of the dark travel vehicles were caught by isolation operations while trying to get out of the Jakarta area via rat routes.
“We assure you, some are on the road, arteries and most are on the rat track. We have mapping their movements and we can assure them on these channels, “Sambodo said in a press conference broadcast live on YouTube Metro Jaya Police on Monday (11/05/2020).
