The attitude of PP Muhammadiyah General Secretary Abdul Mu’ti, who rejected the post of Deputy Minister of Education and Culture (Wamendikbud) was praised by the head of the Muhammadiyah Branch of Pondok Labu, South Jakarta, Din Syamsuddin. Din even said that the Wamendikbud job offer had undermined Muhammadiyah.
The story begins when a list of vice ministers circulates before the inauguration on Wednesday (12/23/2020). On the circulating list, Abdul Mu’ti was appointed as a candidate for Vice Minister of Education and Culture.
However, when the inauguration took place, Abdul Mu’ti did not appear to be present in the Palace. President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) only appointed five deputy ministers.
Abdul Mu’ti then recounted the beginning of his entry into the candidate for Vice Minister of Education and Culture. He admitted that he was willing to fulfill the mandate when contacted by Secretary of State Pratikno.
“Initially, when I was contacted by the Minister of State and the Minister of Education and Culture, I said that I was willing to join if I was given the mandate,” Mu’ti said through his Twitter account @Abe_Mukti.
However, Mu’ti later changed his mind. He said that he would not join the Indonesian Advanced Cabinet.
“However, after measuring my ability, I changed my mind. I hope this is the best option,” Mu’ti said.
“After going through various considerations, I decided not to join the Indonesian Advanced Cabinet as vice minister,” he continued.
Mu’ti said that the mandate was very heavy. Mu’ti did not consider himself the right person to fill the position of Vice Minister of Education and Culture.
“I feel that I will not be able to carry out this heavy mandate. I am not the right figure for that mandate,” he said.
