Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – WhatsApp officially announced an automatic message deletion feature. This feature will be available later on Android, Apple iOS, KaiOS, and desktop. WhatsApp revealed that this feature will launch this month. Here’s how to activate it.
WhatsApp named this last option the temporary messaging function. When the temporary messaging feature is activated, new messages sent to chats will disappear after 7 days. This helps the conversation feel lighter and more private.
This temporary message feature besides working to keep chats confidential, it can also make the cell phone storage space more spacious so that the cell phone is Anti slow.
“In an individual chat, each party can activate or deactivate the temporary message function. In a group chat, only the administrator has control to activate and deactivate the temporary message function,” WhatsApp said in an official statement on Thursday (11 May 2020).
WhatsApp explained that when this function is activated the message will be deleted automatically even if the chat has not been read. However, message previews may still be displayed in the notification until WhatsApp is opened.
“When you reply to a message, the original message will be quoted. If the message you reply to is a temporary message, the quoted message can remain in the chat after 7 days,” WhatsApp said.
WhatsApp explained that if a temporary message is forwarded to a chat that disables the temporary message feature, the message will not be lost in the forwarded chat.
“If a user creates a backup before the message is lost, a temporary message will be included in the backup. The temporary message will be deleted when the user restores from the backup,” WhatsApp said.
How to enable the automatic deletion function of WhatsApp messages

- Open WhatsApp chat
- Touch Contact name
- Tap delete automated messages or Disappearing messages
- If prompted, tap Continue and then ON
