The main director of Bulog, Budi Waseso or Buwas, said that if his party received an allocation from the government to absorb two million tons of rice per year, then Bulog was ready to carry out this task. “I want to talk about the absorption capacity of Bulog. Even if we are ordered to absorb even two million tons, we can do it because we have that capacity. The problem is, after absorbing it, what is this rice used for?” Buwas said, Thursday (3/25/2021).
Even so, according to Bulog’s calculations, in real terms the state public company could absorb 800,000 tonnes a year. This is based on the completion of a series of programs that have been previously implemented.
For example, for a market operation program that runs for three months or from January to April 2021, the total absorption reaches 123,000 tons of government rice reserves (CBP).
“As a real estimate, the last three months from January to March the rest of the activities carried out by Bulog minus the social assistance drag were market operations. In those three months, we only made a total of 123,000 tons. The monthly average of CBP can only absorb 50,000 tons “If you multiply 50,000 tons by 12 months, that means only 600,000 tons, that is CBP. That means we can only prepare 800,000 tons for real,” he said.
For CBP availability, so far the rice stock available in the Bulog warehouse is recorded at 923,000 tonnes. This amount is in addition to the previous absorption of rice by farmers, which was recorded at 800,000 tons. This means that there are an additional 123.00 tons of rice.
Bulog continues to absorb the farmers’ harvest. In fact, Buwas plans to visit an area to see first-hand the harvesting process carried out by farmers.
