London –
Chelsea lost to Arsenal, Timo Werner again failed to score a goal and posted a bad record. What’s wrong with Werner?
During their visit to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday (12/27/2020) early morning WIB, Chelsea struggled to dismantle the Arsenal defense despite appearing to dominate from the first half.
In that case, Chelsea were left behind by two first-half goals from Alexandre Lacazette and a penalty from Granit Xhaka. Bukayo Saka added another goal in the second half before Chelsea scored a late consolation goal through Tammy Abraham.
For Chelsea, this defeat has worsened their recent performance, which is indeed difficult to win. Furthermore, the players on the attack line were sterile again, especially Werner.
Yes, after appearing strong at the beginning of this season with a score of eight goals, Werner has been in the fast goal for 10 matches in all competitions! This is Werner’s longest goalless streak after 12 matches in March-November 2015.
During the match, Werner only made two attempts and neither of them aimed at the goal. Even just to aid Chelsea’s attack, Werner struggled until he was finally replaced in the 45th minute.
This is, of course, a bad precedent for Chelsea, who are chasing their competitors at the top. Chelsea need Werner goals again after the last goal against Sheffield United on 7 November!
“Of course, attacking players are not always measured by goals,” coach Frank Lampard said of Werner’s performance, who only assisted three after that.
“I could have changed more players. But I think I have to make two changes in the two sectors so that the team has more energy,” he continued. BBC Sport.
“Today Timo Werner did not play well, neither with the ball nor without him. Indeed we have to give him time. I will continue to say that because the league is different. Although he has to adapt quickly.
“We all see that the players are so tired. I have spoken with him. But I felt that I had to make changes to change the course of the game.”
