“We feel cheated on fake honey, they think bad people are stupid”

LEBAK, KOMPAS.com – The Baduy Customary Institution confiscated dozens of bottles of fake honey from a vendor in their area in Kanekes Village, Leuwidamar district, Lebak Regency, Banten.

The Baduy Customary Institution has just learned that various people have distributed fake honey to tourists visiting Baduy after there was a lot of news about the raid on the fake honey factory.

The fake honey was confiscated because it was considered to have tarnished the good name of Baduy, which has been known for its local and natural wisdom.

“Previously, I did not know if the honey was not authentic. After finding out, the traditional institutions met and agreed to eradicate the fake honey in the Baduy environment,” said the traditional leader of the Baduy community and head of Kanekes Village, Jaro Saija, on Sunday (11/22/2020).

Until Sunday, 20 bottles of fake honey were confiscated in various places in Baduy and a 50-liter driver. Then the honey will be destroyed.

Saija conveyed that he, as the head of the village and also a traditional institution, felt cheated by the circulation of fake honey in the Baduy neighborhood.

Until now, he said, his party has been monitoring Baduy’s honey sellers and buyers one by one because nearly 70 percent of Baduy’s residents sell honey.

Saija said Baduy residents have been victims of those who distribute fake honey to Baduy.

“We, the people of Baduy, feel cheated, they think that the people of Baduy are stupid. I also don’t know if this is fake honey, because I don’t know where this fake honey came and came from,” he said.

Saija hopes that the circulation of fake honey in the Baduy area can be stopped. Apart from strict supervision, also encouraging the cultivation of odeng or imitation honey.

“We are promoting the cultivation of Nyiruan, currently we can cultivate 500 boxes, in the future we are aiming to be able to cultivate 5,000 nest boxes in Baduy,” he said.

Earlier news, the Banten Regional Police exposed a syndicate for the circulation of fake honey which is dangerous if consumed.

The fake honey is distributed under the Madu Lebak brand with a turnover of billions of rupees.
