JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Vice President of the Ulema Council of Indonesia (MUI), Muhyiddin Junaidi, admitted to asking President Joko Widodo to issue a government regulation instead of a law (Perppu) to cancel the Job Creation Law, which was the subject of protests by the public.

The request was made when MUI met with Jokowi at the Presidential Palace, Bogor, on Friday (10/16/2020) last week.

However, according to Muhyiddin, President Jokowi rejected the request.

“We MUI asked the government to issue a Perppu. But the president said he couldn’t because it was a government initiative,” Muhyiddin said. Kompas.com, Monday (10/19/2020).

Muhyiddin said that the request to issue the Perppu was in line with the aspirations of several people who had broadcast their aspirations to MUI. One of them is workers who feel that their rights are being curtailed.

However, according to Muhyiddin, the president at the meeting emphasized that the government would soon formulate derivative regulations for the Employment Creation Law in the form of government and presidential regulations. MUI was also asked to provide information.

However, Muhyidin assessed that no matter how good the derived regulations that the government will formulate later are, it still cannot be a solution for the problematic articles of the Employment Creation Law.

“This is because PP or Perpres cannot go beyond the law,” he said.

Therefore, Muhyiddin regrets that Jokowi only invited the MUI to provide information after the Employment Creation Law was passed.

However, he mentioned that MUI will continue to conduct a comprehensive study on the final manuscript of the Copyright Law. After that, the new MUI will make concrete contributions to the government.

Therefore, MUI asked Jokowi for a copy of the final manuscript. The manuscript has also been delivered by the Minister of State, Secretary Pratikno.

“Because until now there is still confusion about the originality of the Law in circulation. That is why MUI wants to discuss it thoroughly and must have the original text, ”he said.
