Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Vice President Ma’ruf Amin will certainly not participate in the initial Covid-19 vaccination on January 13, 2021 along with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).
Vice President Masduki’s spokesman said Ma’ruf Amin would not be coming due to his advanced age.
“Because the vice president is over 60, it is not possible for him to be vaccinated with the current vaccine, Sinovac,” Masduki explained as quoted by CNN Indonesia on Tuesday (1/5/2021).
According to Masduki, Vice President Ma’ruf will only receive vaccines that meet the criteria for his age and health status. “Perhaps later in the next stage, if there is a vaccine that meets the criteria of the vice president’s conditions,” Masduki continued.
For your information, the initial vaccination will use the Sinovac vaccine called CoronaVac. In its clinical trials, this vaccine is given to volunteers ages 19 to 56. There are no data that this vaccine is effective for the elderly or the elderly.
Currently, Sinovac is conducting a final stage clinical trial in Indonesia in collaboration with PT Bio Farma (Persero) involving 1,600 volunteers. So far, the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) has not issued an emergency use permit for this Chinese vaccine.
