Vanuatu Tourism Office Communications Manager Nick Howlett told the broadcaster ABC.net.au, Wednesday (09/30/2020), that he believes the comments are part of an “unauthentic coordinated activity (social media)”, which refers to the use of bots. This robot, he said, had attacked Vanuatu’s social media accounts with hateful comments every time the country’s politicians had raised human rights issues in Papua in the past.
Indonesian Foreign Ministry spokesman Teuku Faizasyah did not support Vanuatu’s claim about the bot theory.
“Can we silence social networks? Comment (ethics in social networks) depends on the maturity of a person. But I think most of our people are anti-racist because we are a pluralist nation, “he said.
