Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has issued new regulations to reduce the spread of the corona virus, which is likely to last six months.
“This is a time when we must act,” Johnson told Parliament on Tuesday (9/22/2020) as reported. Bloomberg. By imposing restrictions now, the government can “protect the economy from much harsher and more costly actions that will inevitably be necessary in the future,” he said.
Under the new rules, bars, pubs and restaurants will be reserved to close at 10 p.m. starting Thursday, with all offerings limited to on-site service. Plans to allow commercial events to resume from October 1 and crowds at sports venues will be banned.
Johnson also asked the British public to work from home whenever possible. This rule especially applies to office workers, where they agree that working from home is more effective than working from the office.
Meanwhile, schools and health centers will remain open, and workers providing essential services will still be able to go to their workplaces.
This new regulation also requires the use of masks for people who travel on public transport and in public spaces. Hospitality and retail workers should also wear masks.
If you don’t follow the rules, there will be a more stringent fine. This rule has previously been implemented by several countries, such as Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.
The new regulations were made in an effort to reopen the country’s economy that has plunged into recession after more than 100 years as a result of national lockdowns.
Johnson’s Chief Scientific Advisor Patrick Vallance warned on Monday that without action, Britain is on track to record 50,000 new Covid-19 cases every day in mid-October.
Johnson’s announcement is clearly a change in the UK’s strategy for dealing with COVID-19. Ministers have spent the last two months trying to persuade the British to return to their workplaces to revive the economy.
The government also subsidizes restaurant food throughout August in an effort to boost the industry and restore the habits of British citizens before the emergence of the global Covid-19 pandemic.
The UK has now recorded 398,625 positive coronavirus cases, with 41,788 deaths so far, according to Worldometers data.
