The Turkish government strongly condemns the burning of the Koran in Sweden, which has led to violent demonstrations. The demonstration of the burning of Al-Quran was attended by anti-Islamic Danish politicians.
Reporting from Anadolu Agency, On Sunday (8/30/2020) through its Foreign Ministry, the Turkish government condemned the action. Turkey also criticized Rasmus Paludan, an anti-Islamic politician who is said to be the provocateur of this action.
“We strongly condemn the terrible provocations carried out by an Islamophobic and racist politician and his supporters who came to Denmark from the Swedish city of Malmo,” Turkey’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
Rasmus Paludan, leader of the anti-Islamic group Tight Direction (Stram Kurs), and his supporters set fire to the Quran on Friday night (8/28).
After the images appeared on the internet, anti-racist groups in Malmo reacted to the incident and activists blocked traffic and burned tires on the road.
The police arrested three people who burned the Koran. Danish racist leader Paludan was barred from entering Sweden for two years.
“This act of provocation is a severe blow to the culture of coexistence and European values,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
