President of the United States (USA) Donald Trump removed Defense Secretary Mark Esper at the end of his term. This removal is the result of Trump’s anger at Esper.

Mark Esper is seen to have often hindered Trump’s plans. However, Trump still expressed his gratitude.

“Mark Esper has been discontinued. I want to thank him for his service,” Trump said on Twitter as reported. AFP, Tuesday (11/10/2020).

Trump announced that the director of the National Counterterrorism Center and former special officer, Christopher Miller, will replace Esper as Secretary of Defense.

Esper was fired after 16 months of work trying to submit to politics while pursuing fundamental reforms to the massive Pentagon bureaucracy. In addition, it is also trying to reform the defense posture of the United States around the world to focus on the Chinese threat.

Trump also reasoned that he was angry that Esper refused to deploy federal troops to quell the civil unrest in the United States that occurred some time ago. It is also credited with slowing down Trump’s desire for a swift full withdrawal of US troops from Afghanistan as violence continues in the country.

Trump’s decision to fire Esper comes just a week after losing to Democrat Joe Biden to become president of the United States. Trump also said there were only 10 weeks left before he left the White House.
