Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
The National Covid-19 Management Task Force or the Covid-19 Task Force highlighted the trend of developing active corona-positive cases in Indonesia, which is considered to be worsening. The reason is that instead of decreasing, the percentage of active Covid-19 cases in the country is actually increasing.
The spokesperson for the Covid-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, even said that the rate of increase in the percentage of active Covid-19 cases was even faster.
According to him, one of the factors that aggravates the condition is the low level of public compliance with the implementation of the 3M health protocol. Especially during long vacations.
“It can be concluded that each increase in active cases is always accompanied by an increase in the percentage of regions that do not comply with health protocols. And it always begins with a long vacation event,” said Wiku in giving a press release about the progress of the management of Covid-19 in the BNPB Building, on Thursday (12/24).
According to the records of the Covid-19 Working Group, the latest developments in the management of Covid-19 as of December 24, 2020, saw an increase in positive cases of 7,199 cases, with 108,269 active cases, or 15.6 per percent compared to the world average of 27.40 percent.
If you look at the graph of the development of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia during the pandemic that took place in the period from March to July 2020, the number of active cases increased from 1,107 cases to 37,342 cases. The increase in this period took 4 months.
Also in that period, the increase in active cases was accompanied by an increase in weekly Covid-19 tests by up to 50 percent. And in this period there is also a long holiday of Eid al-Fitr, that is, from May 22 to 25, 2020.
Then the Working Group recorded the developments in the next period, namely August-October. During that period, the number of active cases increased from 39,354 to 66,578 cases. This increase was observed in just 2 months.
Weekly tests in the second period also increased by 40 percent, and the percentage of areas that did not comply with the health protocol also increased, from 28.57 percent to 37.12 percent. This period also includes a long vacation on August 17, 20 and 23, 2020.
“The largest increase in the shortest time occurred in the period from November to December. Active cases doubled from 54,804 cases to 103,239 cases in just one month,” Wiku said.
Unlike the previous period, the increase in active cases in the third period actually came amid a lower increase in testing than before, that is, 40 percent.
At the same time, the percentage of districts that did not comply with health protocols also increased by 48.01 percent. This period also includes a long vacation period from October 28 to November 1, 2020.
Currently, Wiku said, while the weekly testing rate is increasing, it has not been accompanied by a decline in active cases. It should be that even if the tests increase, the number of active cases should continue to decrease.
This shows that the current transmission rate is still high, so many new cases are found from the test results.
“A situation like this shows that society continues to be neglected. So they put themselves and others in danger in the midst of this pandemic that is not over yet.”
The Task Force hopes that the current momentum of the 2021 Christmas and New Year holidays could be a test for the community to repeat its previous experiences, that is, the increase in active cases after the long holiday period.
The community is expected to learn to support government efforts to reduce the rate of cases and reduce the number of active cases, strictly adhering to health protocols.
“Let’s be a community group that plays a role in saving ourselves and our closest loved ones by choosing not to travel and avoiding crowds,” Wiku said.
