“Ayyamul Bidh” in itself literally means white days. There are two different opinions on the origin of the Ayyamul Bidh fast.

Quoting Nu.or.id, the book ‘Umdatul Qari`Syarhu Shahihil Bukhari explains that the name is related to the story of the prophet Adam US when he came to earth.

Ibn Abbas’s narration says, when Allah sent Prophet Adam to earth, the sun burned Prophet Adam’s entire body until it turned black. Then Allah revealed that Prophet Adam fasted for three days.
