TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Several policemen and members of TNI were seen visiting the home of the leader of the Front of Islamic Defenders (FPI) Rizieq Shihab in Jalan Petamburan III, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, on Saturday night, November 21, 2020 . They came on motorcycles.

After parking in front of the alley, they moved directly to Rizieq Shihab’s house. According to Tempo’s observation at the scene, the security forces that were the TNI People’s Orientation Officer (Babinsa) and Bhabinkamtibmas Polri arrived around 10 pm WIB.

His arrival was greeted by young men who had guarded the front of Gang Paksi, the alley of Rizieq Shihab’s house. “I think I’m going to come find the one who beat up the soldiers yesterday,” said Tri (not his real name), a Petamburan III resident Tempo met at the scene.

Tri explained that when TNI members controlled Rizieq Shihab’s banners and billboards yesterday, several FPI members objected. He said that two TNI members were beaten. “Those who were beaten were behind the group. It happened yesterday,” Tri said.

Nur (not his real name), another Petamburan III resident, also confirmed Tri’s statement. According to him, the beatings occurred shortly after the Rizieq billboards were ordered. “I’m not FPI, I just saw it. The one who hit was wearing striped clothes, the one who was hit was also wearing striped clothes,” he said.

Kapolsek Metro Tanah Abang Senior Deputy Commissioner Singgih Hermawan has yet to respond to Tempo’s message regarding the purpose of the arrival of the police and TNI members at Rizieq Shihab’s home tonight.

Earlier, the Commander of the Regional Military Command or Pangdam Jaya, Major General TNI Dudung Abdurachman, ordered his men to tear down the billboards of Rizieq Shihab. He issued the order because he was already upset by the FPI’s attitude of putting up billboards without permission and its content contradicted government policies during the current Covid-19 pandemic regarding health protocols.
