Jakarta, CNN Indonesia –
Evan Clementine, SMAN 6 Kota student Depok failed to become president of the intra-school student organization (OSIS) is suspected only becauseIslam.
Evan’s vote was disqualified by the committee for the election of the student council president on the grounds that the electronic voting system (e-vote) was damaged by them. In fact, Evan’s votes until the end of the election period on Tuesday (11/10) at 3:00 p.m. WIB, led the other four candidates.
However, until the commission decided to extend the electoral period until 11:59 p.m., the next day it was decided to repeat the electoral process because many students exercised their voting rights.
“The reason continued because he said that there were those who had not voted, he said that there were some people who could not vote because Username already used, “said the student of class XI IPA to CNNIndonesia.com, Thursday (11/12).
The voting day for the election of the SMAN 6 Depok Student Council president took place on Tuesday (11/10), after the five OSIS president candidates had delivered an open speech the day before.
On the day of the vote, Evan said the committee had set a deadline for the election of 3:00 pm WIB. However, the committee postponed the deadline for the elections to 17.00 WIB, arguing that many students had not voted.
However, until the specified deadline, Evan said, there was no information from the committee that the electronic voting process was stopped. He finally discovered the information himself.
The news he received came from one of his friends in the IT department. He said the election process continued until 11:59 p.m. WIB. According to Evan, neither the students nor the candidates were aware of the decision.
“The point is that, at the very least, I will be given clarity on the next steps that the committee has decided on,” he said.
Evan did not completely believe the committee’s reasoning that the decision to extend the election period up to two times was due to the fact that many students had not yet cast their votes. He then asked the IT department for information and found that only three people could not vote by electronic voting.
“There I began to be suspicious. What is it? Why is there no clarity, why did the voting continue until 23:59,” he said.
At the time, information from one of his friends, Evan’s voice was still leading the way among the other four candidates. In a screenshot, Evan received 449 votes, more than any other candidate with 350 votes. He also uploaded the cut of the image to his Instagram account.
The next day, Evan and the other four candidates were asked to go to school. There, he was greeted by the president of the SMAN 6 Depok Student Council, the president of the Representative Class Council (MPK), and the vice principal of the school. They decided to vote again.
Evan said that at that time he did not completely reject the decision. He admitted that he rejected the decision to vote again and provided a solution for the three people who previously reported not to use their voting rights to be accommodated. He is also willing to reduce the number of votes he gets.
However, the committee and the school refused and decided to repeat the electronic voting.
“Initially, I suggested, okay, how many votes are there? Username already used. Then they took my voice away, but they did not want to and did not listen to my voice and, in fact, their decision was fine if there was a repeated vote, “he said.
Later, Evan suspected that the decision to e-vote was just a pretext for him not being elected. The allegations arose after he received a screenshot of a conversation between various parties with religious sentiments because he was not a Muslim.
He also confirmed this information to the deputy director of SMAN 6 Depok City. However, the Wakasek denied this information.
“From the moment I was suddenly summoned, I finally said, why was the vote again, is it because of my religion? He said: ‘No, it’s impossible. I shouldn’t think like that,'” he said, imitating the response of the deputy chief Justice.
Evan has now decided to stop running. He considered that there were principles of injustice in the re-election decision.
“I want to ask for justice as a belief, as for example, everyone has the right to be a leader regardless of religion. Whatever happens, if the quality is good, you have the right to be a leader,” he said.
SMAN 6 Depok City principal Abdul Fatah has denied allegations of ethnic, racial, religious and intergroup sentiment (SARA) in the selection process for the president of his school’s student council. According to him, the issue was only made by a group of irresponsible people.
Fatah confirmed that the decision to repeat electronic voting was not due to Evan’s religious background.
“I make sure it’s not that, it’s a problem, it’s usually used by certain people who feel uncomfortable. I make sure it’s not in that direction,” he said.
