JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) questioned the reason for the appointment of its leader, Rizieq Shihab, as a suspect in the case of a crowd in Petamburan, central Jakarta, on November 14 by Polda Metro Jaya.

The FPI’s Head of Legal Assistance, Sugito Atmo Prawiro, said the determination was not correct.

Polda Metro Jaya, Thursday (10/12/2020) yesterday, named Rizieq a suspect in connection with the crowd around his home in Petamburan on November 14. At this time, Rizieq organized the birthday of the Prophet and the wedding of his daughter, Shafira Najwa Shihab. About 10,000 people attended the event.

A series of violations to the health protocol occurred in events carried out in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and the implementation of large-scale social restrictions (PSBB).

“Why is the host a suspect? Habib Rizieq is not an organizer and committee chairman. Only on the spot,” Sugito said when contacted. Kompas.com, Thursday (10/12/2020) afternoon.

According to Sugito, the birthday of the Prophet and the wedding of Shafira Najwa Shihab were the responsibility of the committee. He added that Rizieq always remembered the health protocol when organizing events.

“Habib Rizieq has already reminded him of the health protocol. Why, being the host, is he suspicious?” he said.

Sugito asked the police to do justice in cases of violation of health protocols. The reason is that there are also crowds that show up due to the Pilkada 2020.

“Because he (Rizieq Shihab) was considered an opponent, he was persecuted to the end. We are very disappointed,” Sugito said.

Police named Rizieq and five other people related to the Petamburan event as suspects. Rizieq was subject to article 160 of the Penal Code regarding incitement and article 216 of the Penal Code regarding efforts to combat officers.

FPI’s legal team plans to visit the Polda Metro Jaya headquarters on Friday to request a subpoena to investigate Rizieq and five other people as suspects in the crowd in the Petamburan case.

This was transmitted by the Deputy Secretary General and Legal Advisor of FPI, Aziz Yanuar.

“Our team of lawyers will come to Polda Metro Jaya this morning to request a subpoena of investigation as suspects for all suspects in suspected criminal cases, as stated in suspect determination letter number B / 20079 / XII / Res.1.24 / 2020 / Ditreskrimum dated December 9, 2020, “Aziz said in his statement, Friday morning.
