Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Covid-19 vaccine developed and tested by Russia was successful in producing an antibody response and showed no serious side effects.
This is a research report published in The Lancet medical journal late last week, as cited by CNBC Indonesia via CNBC’s international page (cnbc.com), on Saturday (5/9/2020).
The physicians involved in the trial conducted two open-label case studies in a Russian hospital of 76 volunteers aged 18 to 60.
In a trial conducted on 38 people over 42 days, medical staff found no serious side effects among the volunteers and confirmed that the vaccine responded to antibodies, the journal authors said.
The author said: “Long-term trials that include additional follow-up are needed to determine if a vaccine can prevent Covid-19 infection in the long term.”
The Lancet itself is one of the most famous medical journals in the world, based in New York, London, and Beijing.
The Russian vaccine, called Sputnik V, became the world’s first vaccine to be registered after gaining approval from local health authorities last month.
At the time, Russian President Vladimir Putin said the vaccine would be mass-produced in September.
