JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Siti Nadia Tarmizi, director of Prevention and Control of Direct Communicable Diseases of the General Directorate of the Ministry of Health P2P (Kemenkes), said that there were incidents of health workers (health workers) who tested positive for Covid-19 after receiving the Covid-19 vaccine.

According to Nadia, those exposed to Covid-19 were infected with the corona virus before receiving the first phase of vaccination.

“This is mostly infected (Covid-19) in the period before receiving instead of the vaccine,” Nadia said in a press conference broadcast on the YouTube channel of the Ministry of Health, on Monday (2/22/2021) .

Nadia said that the incubation period for the corona virus is 1 to 14 days with an average of 5 to 6 days, so it is very possible that health workers are exposed to Covid-19 before receiving the vaccine.

Additionally, Nadia emphasized that the Covid-19 CoronaVac vaccine produced by the Chinese company Sinovac was declared safe and of good quality with the issuance of an emergency use permit from the Food and Drug Administration (BPOM).

The government is now using the vaccine for the Covid-19 vaccination program.

“Therefore, it is certain that injecting this vaccine does not cause illness in people who get vaccinated,” he said.

Nadia also explained that the first injection of the Covid-19 vaccine was to trigger an initial immune response.

Meanwhile, the second injection of vaccines is to strengthen the immune response that has been formed in the first injection.

“So that the new immunity that will be formed as a vaccine against covid-19 will form after 28 days of injecting the second dose,” he said.

Additionally, Nadia said that her party had not yet reported any significant post-immunization follow-up (AEFI) on vaccinations given to healthcare workers aged 60 and over.
