The government will confirm the religious rights of the Shiites and Ahmadiyya in Indonesia.

JAKARTA, AYOBANDUNG.COM – After being inaugurated by President Joko Widodo, the Minister of Religion Yaqut Cholil Qoumas immediately intervened to solve the problems in Indonesia.

Recently, the government will confirm the religious rights of Shiites and Ahmadiyya in Indonesia.

According to Yaqut, religious minorities should not be expelled from their places of origin due to differences in beliefs.

“They are citizens that must be protected,” Yaqut said when confirmed in Jakarta on Thursday (12/24/2020).

Gus Yaqut also stated that the Ministry of Religion would facilitate a more intense dialogue to bridge existing differences.

“A more intense dialogue is needed to bridge the differences. The Ministry of Religion will facilitate,” he said.

The statement was in response to a request by Syarif Hidayatullah Islamic State University Jakarta professor Azyumardi Azra for the government to affirm minority issues.

This was streamed online on the Professor Talk forum of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences in Jakarta on Tuesday (12/15/2020).

“Especially for those who have been marginalized and then there is persecution, that needs affirmation,” Azyumardi said.

According to Azyumardi, the government does not appear to give claims to minority groups. For example, when members of a religious minority want to build a place of worship.

Azyumardi said that the Shiite refugees in Sidoarjo and the Ahmadiyya group in Mataram had to be persecuted by a “covert” Islamic group.
