Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Covid-19 Working Group spokesperson Wiku Adisasmito responded to the discovery of the D614G corona mutation in Indonesia, which is said to be 10 times more contagious than the initial Covid-19 corona virus.
Wiku Adisasmito revealed that his party was monitoring reports of the discovery of D614G corona virus mutations in Indonesia. He also saw developments in the world by examining clinical data from various publications.
“One of them is from the UK, where there are 999 cases of Covid-19 and infected patients containing D614G have higher levels of viral RNA,” Wiku said at a digital press conference at the State Palace on Tuesday ( 9/1/2020).
Still, Wiku admitted, his group found no difference in hospitalization outcomes. These observations are supported by two independent studies of 175 Covid-19 patients in Seattle (USA) and 88 patients in Chicago (USA).
“Severity with viral concentration does not always correlate and the current evidence for D614G is not as important compared to other risk factors such as comorbidities,” he explained.
Wiku said more research is needed on the circulating virus and the type of virus.
We convey that the process of investigation and investigation of the distribution of this virus case, of course, is carried out by research institutions in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, ”explained Wiku.
Previously, scientists from Airlangga University found a D614G crown mutation in Indonesia since April 2020. The Eikjman Institute for Molecular Biology (LBM) also found mutations in 5 major cities in Indonesia. In fact, a case was found in which a Covid-19 positive patient could infect 45 people.
