The story of Mark Esper being fired by Trump even though he just met Prabowo

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President of the United States (USA) Donald Trump announced that he would remove Mark Esper as Defense Minister (Menhan). He even made the notification on his social media account on Twitter @realDonaldTrump.

He also immediately named Esper’s successor, namely the Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, Christopher C. Miller. “Mark Esper has been fired,” Trump tweeted to @realDonaldTrump on Monday (September 11, 2020) local time.

This move also comes amid Trump’s rejection of the results of the US presidential elections (Election). Trump, based on a quick count, lost to his opponent Joe Biden.

Esper’s firing may not be the first, either. A Trump administration official told the media that FBI and CIA officials would also be fired soon.

Currently, the director of the US FBI is Christopher Wray. While the director of the CIA is Gina Haspel.

Whereas previously, in mid-October, Esper had just met with Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto. He invited Prabowo to the Pentagon on October 15.

Quoted on the official website of the United States Ministry of Defense, during the meeting the two ministers discussed regional security, bilateral defense priorities and defense procurement. Esper spoke of the importance of upholding human rights, the rule of law and professionalization as the two countries expand their participation.

Meanwhile, Prabowo conveyed the importance of military engagement at all levels and expressed appreciation for the United States’ support for the modernization of Indonesian defense. Both also expressed their hopes of increasing bilateral activities between the military and cooperating in maritime security.

Not only that, the two ministers also signed a Memorandum of Intent (MoI) to attempt to restart the Defense Prisoners of War / Missing in Action Accounting Agency. This is done to restart America’s work in America to recover American personnel who were lost in Indonesia during WWII.
