JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan, recounted his experience when he visited the United States last week, to be exact, from October 15 to 19.

Through his official Instagram account, Luhut admitted that he never imagined being in the Presidential Palace of the United States or better known as the White House for almost 6 hours.

“And I even had the opportunity to be accepted in the Oval Office,” he said through his account @ luhut.pandjaitan, quoted on Tuesday (11/24/2020).

During his visit to the White House, Luhut, who served as President Joko Widodo’s special envoy, was received directly by United States President Donald Trump.

“My main goal for going to the United States is to convey President Jokowi’s appreciation for President Trump, who has extended the GSP (Generalized system of preference) until Indonesia becomes the only country in Asia to have this golden opportunity, “he said.

In addition, Luhut also revealed his success in attracting investments worth $ 2 billion or the equivalent of Rs 28.2 trillion (assuming an exchange rate of Rs 14,100 to the US dollar) from the International Finance Corporation for the Development of the United States (IDFC).

According to him, this success was the result of a close relationship between him and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, and his colleague Adam Boehler, the IDFC CEO who, incidentally, is President Trump’s right-hand man.
