JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government said there is a plan to eliminate Premium fuel types.
The plan is in line with the Regulation of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry Number 20 of 2017 on the limits of the Research Octane Number (RON).
This was revealed by the Director General for Pollution and Control of Environmental Damages of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, MR Karliansyah.

He said that PT Pertamina (Persero) would phase out Premium gasoline on January 1, 2021.
The plan is for the policy to be implemented on the islands of Java, Madura and Bali (Jamali).
In response to the statement, Pertamina Subholding Chief Commercial and Commercial Officer Mas’ud Khamid said that the decision to abolish the fuel sales allocation was entirely up to the government.
“The decision to remove a BBM product allocation is the authority of the regulator, not Pertamina,” Mas’ud told Kompas.com on Saturday (8/14/2020).
In line with Mas’ud, Pertamina’s acting vice president of corporate communication, Heppy Wulansari explained that, although her party is promoting the use of more environmentally friendly fuel, the premium distribution policy is the authority of the government.
“Pertamina is committed to encouraging the use of fuel with a higher RON, because in addition to being good for the environment, it will also have a positive impact on vehicle engines and cleaner air,” Heppy said.
Previously, MR. Karliansyah said that on Monday (9/11/2020) he had just met with Pertamina’s Director of Operations and said that as of January 1, 2021 Pertamina would phase out Premium in Java, Madura and Bali.

“Thank God, last Monday I met with Pertamina’s COO. He conveyed to me that as of January 1, 2021, Premium in Jamali in particular will be eliminated. Other cities in Indonesia will follow,” he said in a discussion virtual.
The plan to remove Premium has been debated in recent times.
Phasing out 88 octane gasoline is one of the government’s efforts to reduce carbon emissions from vehicles.
