Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conveyed that the port of Patimban, in Subang, West Java, which was inaugurated today, Sunday December 20, 2020, is expected to become a new logistics route in Indonesia.
This is because the port of Tanjung Priok in North Jakarta is currently the busiest port in Indonesia managed by a state company, PT Pelindo II (Persero).
To be sure, the port of Tanjung Priok often causes congestion in the Jakarta-Bekasi segment and vice versa. The Patimban project is considered to have a strategic role that will have a positive impact on national economic growth and West Java.
“[Pelabuhan Patimban] It also serves to strengthen the existence of the port of Tanjung Priok, which has been overcrowded and has caused congestion in the Jakarta-Bekasi, Bekasi-Jakarta segment, ”said Jokowi, when launching the inaugural operation of the Patimban International Port virtually, on Sunday (12/20/2020).
The Head of State continued, with its strategic location between Kertajati airport and industrial estates in Bekasi, Karawang, Purwakarta, the port of Patimban is expected to be a key link between regions such as manufacturing industry, tourism and the agricultural centers, in addition to supporting the acceleration of exports.
Jokowi conveyed that the construction of the port of Patimban in the first stage was ready to serve containers with a capacity of 3.5 million TEU (twenty-foot equivalent units) and was expected to be 7 million TEU in the third stage.
Meanwhile, the capacity of the car terminal is 218 thousand CBU vehicles (fully built) and then it will be 600 thousand vehicles. The president hopes that Patimban can increase exports of Indonesian auto products globally.

Not only that, the president also advised that the existence of Patimban be increasingly consolidated with industrial development and the local economy, so that the growth of new economic centers can be accelerated.
On the same occasion, Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that in this first stage of operation, the port of Patimban made the first export of 140 cars to Brunei Darussalam using the MV Ship. Suzuka Express, owned by PT Toyofuji Shipping Co., Ltd.
In the future, Budi Karya continued, Patimban will be synergized with Tanjung Priok port, so that it can improve logistics time efficiency.
“Patimban will also be connected to toll roads and railways. The potential for the development of 10 industrial areas in the North Java corridor is expected to increase,” he said.
